How to eat the "bad" but better

A common misconception about eating healthy especially on a budget
is that you can't eat the things you love and lose weight.
Well that's simply not true. If you practice proper portion control and use smart swaps you can eat anything you want.

You can't look at this from a 'I will never eat anything "bad" for me again' stand point. It is ridiculous to say you will never eat another piece of pizza again because you will. That is life and its gonna throw junk food your way from time to time.
There is nothing you can do to stop that.

What you can do, is understand that you are not on a diet.
You are making a life style change. If you want to lose weight and keep it off you have to fuel your body with good things. Something to keep in mind is 30% Working out and 70% Nutrition, because abs are made in the kitchen.

That being said to do something for life, you have to be comfortable with it.
So this post is all about how to still eat your favorite foods either with a smart swap or portion control.

Lets say you want Steak and Potatoes for dinner.
Only eat 4-6oz of steak. Trim the fat from your steak, swap your potato for a sweet potato and always use low cal butter. Just by doing those things your saving yourself over 300 calories. (If your paying attention to your wallet look for deals on steak I always get mine marked down.)

How about Spaghetti and meatballs?
There are a few swaps you can make here. You could use zucchini or squash for the noodles and of course turkey for the meatballs. If you would rather keep your noodles and meatballs just the way they are use smart portions and this can still be a lower calorie meal.

What about Pizza?
Use a low calorie flat bread instead of pizza crust, Turkey pepperoni and tons of veggies. Always use a white cheese for less calories. you can make your own sauce or use a store bought just don't get heavy handed 1/4 to half a cup is all you need.

Burgers are the best.
As always you can swap it out for a turkey burger wrapped in lettuce which is like as healthy as this meal gets. But lets say your craving the real thing good ol ground beef! Here's the trick Just eat ONE! You can use a low cal bun. Kroger's makes one that's 80 calories top and bottom. Make sure the rest of your plate is green veggies!

Don't forget dessert!
We all need sweet treats from time to time and if your anything like me fruit just wont cut it. Yogurt is a really great way to get in some yummy flavors with out all the extra calories but when that just wont do there are a few brands of ice cream that offer full pints for around 300 calories or 75 cals a serving. Fudge sickles have about 40 calories. If your looking for more of a cookie or brownie fix hit pintrest they have tons of high protein low calories baked goods recipes.

What ever your craving there is a way to eat it and eat it right!

The most important thing to remember is that if you do eat something that wasn't the best for you, don't let that define you. One meal isn't going to break all that you have worked for. Imagine your in a car driving and you miss your turn, you don't keep plowing forward. No you make an adjustment and get back on course.
